World Embrace is a beautiful not-for-profit organization that is building a park and community center for the children of Gulu, Uganda. I was absolutely gutted when I researched Gulu, only to discover that there are a disproportionate number of orphaned children due to war. And not only that, they don’t even have a playground! When I was presented the opportunity to help World Embrace, I jumped at the chance. I love doing work that actually helps people. This project is very dear to my heart. The project started as a logo re-design and then evolved into a much larger, ongoing one that involves creating a design system that streamlines all of World Embrace’s marketing and fundraising materials, as well as graphics for Gulu park.
The logo design was inspired by textile patterns. As I researched Gulu, the patterns on the dresses of the Gulu women inspired me. The overlapping elements of the logo symbolize the unity and collaboration that epitomize the World Embrace project. The team is working to creating unity in the Gulu community and collaborating with the residents to create a park that will meet their needs.
